PAKISTAN POVERTY AND EQUITY PROGRAM
The Poverty Global Department is a family of empirical micro-economists with deep expertise in household surveys and poverty measurement, and broad experience in using household and other "micro" data to inform the design and implementation of policies and programs to reduce poverty and enhance shared prosperity. The Pakistan Poverty and Equity (P&E) team has the ambition to inform decision makers within and outside the Bank about the foundations of inclusive economic growth. We prepare analytics and findings inform clients, and/or feed directly into Pakistan’s operational engagement, and where relevant, are integrated into analytical reports. In addition, the team is also responsible for regular analytical products such as policy pieces, technical inputs and papers, and blogs on topics related to cross-country poverty and inequality. The team also provides just-in-time requests to support the work of other Departments, the senior leadership in the Pakistan Country Office, and other international organizations.
The Pakistan Data and Evidence Lab (DEL) is a collaboration between the Poverty and Equity and Social Development practices aimed at enhancing evidence-based decision-making in Pakistan. Pillar 1 focuses on improving the quality, utilization, and integration of World Bank project data to support the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) 2025-2035. This pillar provides Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) expertise to improve data quality, promote data-driven learning, and strengthen adaptive decision-making within World Bank operations. By leveraging M&E data, it identifies scalable activities for greater impact, supports early detection of operational challenges, and facilitates timely problem-solving to maintain program efficiency. Additionally, it ensures systematic monitoring of project objectives and key performance indicators, fosters collaboration between operational and analytical teams, and contributes to a deeper understanding of the socio-economic conditions of target populations to inform future programming. This pillar will aim to build an internal dashboard to monitor the progress of the CPF, as well as an interactive dashboard for the high-frequency survey data. It will also work to improve gender-sensitive data collection wherever possible in M&E activities. This pillar will be led by the Poverty and Equity team.
