Job Summary:
The Orthotist at The Diabetes Centre will assess, design, fabricate, fit, and provide orthotic and prosthetic devices to diabetic patients with limb loss, neuropathy, foot ulcers, and other related conditions. This role involves a high degree of precision and empathy, working closely with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patients' mobility, quality of life, and overall well-being. The Orthotist will also conduct patient evaluations, customize devices to individual needs, and provide ongoing support, education, and follow-up care to ensure optimal device performance and patient satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with diabetes and related conditions, including detailed physical evaluations, analysis, reviews of medical history, and pedo scan assessments.
- Diagnose and recommend appropriate orthotic or prosthetic solutions tailored to meet patients' specific mobility and support needs.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, physiotherapists, podiatrists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic, patient-centered approach to care.
- Design, fabricate, and modify orthotic and prosthetic devices tailored to individual patient needs, ensuring safety, comfort, and functionality.
- Select appropriate materials and techniques for each device to ensure durability, compliance, and comfort.
- Utilize CAD/CAM and other advanced technologies to enhance precision in device production.
- Conduct initial fittings of orthotic and prosthetic devices, ensuring correct alignment, comfort, and functionality.
- Adjust and align devices as needed to optimize fit and patient satisfaction.
- Educate patients on the proper use, care, and maintenance of devices to enhance longevity and prevent complications.
- Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families about the use and care of devices, as well as strategies to prevent further complications.
- Schedule and conduct regular follow-up appointments to assess device performance, address patient concerns, and make necessary adjustments.
- Monitor patients' progress and document outcomes to ensure ongoing improvement and satisfaction.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop personalized patient care plans and ensure consistent follow-up.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, device specifications, and follow-up results.
- Prepare reports and documentation as required by regulatory bodies and hospital standards.
- Any other task assigned by your supervisor.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics or relevant experience in the related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as an Orthotist, preferably with diabetic patients.
- Strong understanding of diabetic complications and specific orthotic and prosthetic requirements for diabetic patients.
