Job Description

Job Title: Lab Technician

Department: Biosciences

Qualification: Bachelor’s degree (16 years of education) in Biosciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Zoology or Botany, from a HEC recognized university/institution.

Experience: Up to 2 years of overall relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities
 

• Conduct laboratory lectures and demonstrate practical sessions for undergraduate Life Sciences courses, ensuring adherence to biosafety and laboratory safety standards.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to students on laboratory techniques, safe handling of biological materials, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
• Prepare biological samples, chemical reagents, and experimental setups following standardized laboratory protocols and safety procedures.
• Perform accurate laboratory calculations, quantitative measurements, data recording, and basic analysis to support experimental research activities.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and proper decontamination practices.
• Manage laboratory inventory, including consumables and equipment maintenance, maintaining detailed documentation such as safety records and inventory lists.
• Coordinate with faculty members, students, and relevant departments to facilitate smooth laboratory operations and enforce biosafety requirements.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, segregation, and disposal of chemical and biological materials, sharps, and laboratory waste in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Assist in departmental research projects, practical examinations, workshops, and demonstrations to support academic activities.
• Implement emergency and incident-response procedures, maintain biosafety preparedness, and manage necessary safety provisions such as spill-response materials and emergency equipment.
• Perform any additional laboratory-related duties as assigned by the Head of Department or authorized university management.
