EFU Life Assurance Ltd. seeks a dedicated Deputy Manager - Underwriting to manage the underwriting process with precision and expertise. The ideal candidate will conduct comprehensive risk assessments, review and validate insurance policies, and ensure strict adherence to regulatory compliance while maintaining high standards of policy administration accuracy. This role demands strong analytical skills, proficiency in underwriting software and data analytics tools, and a solid understanding of medical terminology to evaluate health-related risks effectively. Working collaboratively across departments such as customer service, legal, actuarial, and claims, the Deputy Manager contributes to enhancing operational efficiency and service quality without direct team management responsibilities. The Deputy Manager is responsible for overseeing complex insurance applications, utilizing advanced decision-making capabilities to align underwriting decisions with company guidelines and industry regulations. The position also requires detailed documentation, informed reporting, and clear communication with senior management to support portfolio profitability and continuous process improvement. By leveraging innovative techniques and business intelligence tools, this role plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of the underwriting process, identifying emerging trends, and implementing risk management strategies that minimize losses and optimize customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
 

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments on insurance applications using established risk management frameworks to determine eligibility and terms of policies.
  • Review, validate, and ensure all policy documentation complies with internal standards and external regulatory requirements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze claims data to identify risk patterns and emerging trends that might impact underwriting decisions and policy development.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies throughout the underwriting process.
  • Utilize specialized insurance software and advanced data analytics tools, including expert-level Excel, to maintain accurate underwriting records and generate detailed reports.
  • Apply expert knowledge of medical terminology to assess health-related risks and collaborate effectively with medical professionals when necessary.
  • Develop, update, and manage comprehensive technical documentation and dynamic presentations to support underwriting functions and communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with customer service departments to facilitate timely policy issuance, resolve client inquiries, and enhance overall customer experience.
  • Implement and monitor risk management strategies tailored to maintain insurance portfolio profitability and minimize potential losses.
  • Coordinate underwriting activities with claims, actuarial, and legal teams to ensure consistency, transparency, and rigorous adherence to best practices.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in underwriting workflows by identifying inefficiencies, reducing errors, and optimizing service delivery quality.
  • Manage document and correspondence systems to secure and organize underwriting files, ensuring ease of access and data integrity.
  • Present detailed risk analyses, findings, and actionable recommendations clearly and effectively to senior management.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, regulatory updates, and emerging best practices to continuously enhance underwriting policies and risk assessment methods.
