Key Responsibilities

Write, Edit and Proofread original content - be able to write various forms of content in a creative and structured way.

Storytelling & Narrative Coaching

• Brainstorming Workshops: Lead one-on-one ideation sessions with students to extract compelling life experiences, academic passions, and personal values to generate the ideas for SOPs and writing materials.
• Essay Mentorship: Guide students through the drafting process for personal statements, supplemental essays, and statement of purpose (SOP) documents.
• The "Un-Teacher" Approach: Coach students on how to "show, not tell," helping them find an authentic voice rather than writing generic, overly formal essays.
• Line Editing & Polish: Provide constructive, high-level feedback on structure, tone, flow, and grammar without overtaking the student's unique voice.

Mentorship & Student Counseling

• Profile Building: Help students identify gaps in their extracurricular profiles and suggest and work with them on creative projects, research ideas, or internships that align with their authentic interests.
• Emotional & Academic Support: Act as a steady, empathetic anchor for students and parents during high-stress application seasons, keeping them organized and motivated.
• University Mapping: Assist students in researching universities and tailoring their written narratives to match the specific culture and values of target institutions.
• Progress Tracking: Maintain meticulous records of student milestones, essay drafts, and deadlines to ensure a smooth, stress-free submission process.

Who You Are (Requirements)

• The Writer’s Mind: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Creative Writing, English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• The Mentor’s Heart: Experience in teaching, peer tutoring, counseling, or youth mentorship is preferable. You must genuinely enjoy working with young adults and helping them build confidence.
• Industry Knowledge (A Plus): Prior experience with US/UK/Canadian university application processes, Common App prompts, or UCAS personal statements is highly advantageous. You should be able to effectively research on said topics and be a fast-learner
• Exceptional Soft Skills: Intuitively empathetic, an active listener, and highly organized. You must know how to give critical feedback gently but effectively.
• Language Mastery: Flawless written and spoken English, with a sharp eye for nuance, subtext, and pacing. You should be able to receive constructive feedback and improve; be able to work in a fast-paced environment and able to work reliably under pressure.

You will be asked to submit a written portfolio/assignment.
